Instruction
1. Since being sparked by Wilson in the late 1800s, issues of the politics/administration dichotomy continue to be at the forefront of public administration, even today. After reflecting on the concepts and arguments presented in this week’s readings and video, compose a memo to a supervisor critically analyzing the relationship between policy formation and implementation on a specific issue. Address the following in your memo:
•Select an issue (economic, political, or social), such as minimum wage, immigration, the environment, etc.
•Determine if there are organizational structure considerations that enable or constrain the possible implementation of policy for your selected issue. For example, if you choose immigration policy, examine the policy and explore whether or not there are mechanisms in place within the policy that outline exactly how administrators are to implement the policy. Explain and support your thoughts with examples where appropriate.
Support your paper with at least three scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included.
Length: 5-7 pages, not including title and reference pages
2.After reflecting on ideas presented in this week’s readings, create a speech critically analyzing the central issues in public administration (i.e., any level of government or nonprofit organization). Address the following in your speech:
1.Determine the three most important central issues in public administration based on your own experience, understanding, and perspective; and then, explain why. Support your arguments with evidence from the published literature.
2.Evaluate the extent to which these issues weigh upon current public policy topics. Give examples and explain how.
3.To generate public policy positions, explain how these policies would reflect effective public/government relations.
Support your speech with at least five (5) scholarly references published within the last 5 years. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.
For grading purposes, you will submit a transcript of the speech you would present, along with any visual aids (chart, graphs) that you would use to enhance the presentation
