one-page (Times New Roman 12pt font) writing assignments. the purpose of reflection papers is to provide a means by which you may express your considered opinion about a philosophical text without requiring formal citation or organization.
Make observations which do more than merely state, describe, or summarize the main ideas of the text; your observations should ideally support your some claim of your own.
Think about the following questions as you read – i.e. before you start writing:
How do you react to the text?
What strikes you as being worth further reflection?
Does the author make any assumptions which might be questioned? If so, what?
Are there any connections between the text and class discussions that can be made?
Finally, use examples from the reading to support your claims; it is sometimes helpful to quote a sentence or two from a passage. Avoid excessive quotation.
