Instruction
For this Essay, you will be creating an analysis of "Ready Player One" by looking at social problems presented in the novel and supporting your ideas of why these social problems or ideas are either directly impacting characters, the story plot, the themes, OR perhaps you would like to argue that the social problems presented in the novel are not well developed by the author. You must create an argument in whichever you analyze the novel and the ideas you choose to write about, you must thoroughly support your ideas by explaining all examples, and using novel to show that you understand the text. Remember, choose one item of social problems to analyze and argue this. All analysis ideas must be your own.
(As an example, one social problem you can consider within the novel can be an analysis of social problems in our real world that are presented in the book, is the author trying to get the audience to view the novel as a way to make change to our world etc.... make sure that you can use evidence to support whatever ideas you present, use outside sources when needed for this idea, however do not use them to create your analysis.)
Don't forget to use MLA format, double spaced, 12pt font, times new roman, 1in margins and all on a word document. This is a 3 page essay, please do not submit more than 5 pages.
Explaining your paper grade:
An A paper- presents a clear understanding of the novel while being able to analyze the text to the prompt provided by the professor and through using critical approaches pertinent readings. You have an unambiguous thesis supported by reason and argument. Your argument is clearly and forcefully stated. Your writing is clear and follows grammatical conventions of usage. You use the facts and evidence from the novel or short stories given; you do not merely summarize.
A B paper- attempts to make an argument, but is unclear in logic and construction. You drift from argument to summary of the readings, analysis is unclear at times. You demonstrate some familiarity with the material covered in class, but have not mastered a critical understanding of these readings.
A C paper- summarizes the readings instead of analysis. While essentially correct in the facts presented, this essay lacks an argument, lacks control or mastery of the materials covered, is neither original nor perceptive in the presentation of the materials. There are significant problems with grammar and syntax.
A D paper- presents faulty or incomplete information, makes little or no attempt to construct an argument for analysis, has a passing awareness of the readings, class lectures, and discussions. This paper is poorly conceptualized and executed. It is replete with serious errors in grammar and/or spelling.
a F paper- Doesn't follow any of the above items, doesn't make an attempt to support, proofread or format the essay.
