Instruction
OBJECTIVE: Exercise 1 will give you practice in mindful reading, creating a document, formatting it properly, and submitting it to Blackboard 9.1 for a grade. You will submit most of your writing assignments using this method.
Step #1: Open your word processing program and create a document. Save it as a Word (.doc or .docx) file.
Title your file “LastNameEX1.doc.” Notice that there are no spaces in this file name. For example, my file name would look like this:
MatthewsEX1
Step #2: Format your document so that it will be double-spaced throughout. Use a common 12-point font such as Times New Roman. (Do not use the 11-point Calibri that is the default in Word). Make sure you type your name, section number, and date in the upper left-hand corner of the page (standard MLA manuscript format). Remember to periodically save your document.
Step #3: Read Thomas Friedman’s article, “How to Get a Job at Google.” The article is included in the lesson. Next, in a response of 300 (or more) words, do the following: 1) identify the argument Friedman makes in this op-ed piece, “How to Get a Job at Google,” 2) state whether you agree or disagree with him, and 3) provide reasons for your stance.
Try your best to comply with the rules of Standard American Written English (SAWE) and edit and proofread your writing before submitting it.
Step #4: When you have written, edited, and proofread your paper, save your response.
CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION: You will be assessed on your ability to read critically (mindful reading), comply with the formatting and file naming protocols, your ability to write a complete, coherent, and accurate response,
