NOTES:
So this week I want you to pay attention to how both developed and developing nations have urbanized. Developed nations in Europe and Asia have had more resources and infrastructure to mitigate the challenges and problems urbanization brought. Despite many similarities to American urbanization the history and culture of these places also played into their own unique urbanizing forces. Like in the US, economies in these nations have shifted towards the service industry with a reduced emphasis on industrial manufacturing while also attracting a large number of immigrants with the hope of fruitful labor. Despite the many similarities with the US, other developed nations have not experienced the collapse of the inner-city that the US has Developing nations have urbanization problems that are sometimes hard to conceive of for those in developed nations. Migration to cities has been so quick in many developing nations that urbanization has lacked organization, structure, and resources. The decline in rural areas has led people to feel push forces to move to cities despite the fact that there frequently is not the social support or economic demand there either. Typically this change has occurred at a breakneck pace that even developed nations would struggle with. This has led to many social, environmental, and economic problems.
