The goal of this assignment is to translate a scholarly article written about a current topic in your academic discipline for an educated public audience. Your purpose is to make the findings in that article comprehensible and relevant to an educated, non-expert reader. There are three parts to this assignment: • locate, read, and analyze a recently published scholarly article in your academic discipline that addresses a topic of interest to you and the general public • "translate" (rewrite) the article in a new genre appropriate for public audiences • write a reflective analysis about the choices you made as you wrote your translation

All of them are newspaper articles that translated a scholarly study for a general public audience. This means you will need a headline, a byline (your name), the date, an image with a caption, and so on. You would begin with an opening "hook" that captures the reader's attention and either end that paragraph or begin the second one by introducing the title of the scholarly study and creating a hyperlink for it to the actual published study and then present a very brief summary of the study's key findings.

  • In the paragraphs that follow, you would briefly summarize in language a non-expert reader can understand the research methods, results, limitations, and implications of the study. You would not use in-text citations for this and rely instead on the introductory lead-ins you practiced in Exercise 04. The study you chose is complex, but it addresses a topic of great interest today. I am not seeing the connection this study makes to the field of accounting, so I'm not entirely sure this is in your discipline. Thus, be careful when you summarize the information in this article so that what you state accurately reflects what the published scholarlship conveys.
