Part 3: Module 3: Discussion 1 -- Language disorders in Adolescents and Intellectually Disabled (Must respond to 2 classmates. I will upload the 2 classmates write ups)
Chapters 5 and 6 discuss challenges and interventions for adolescents who are intellectually disabled. These two groups present with unique needs for instruction and intervention. The age of technology has greatly influenced language development, some good some not so good. The need for appropriate interventions is great. Focus on the young child has facilitated change in development. What are we to do with those who present with long term deficits?
The following discussion questions are designed to help you better understand the language challenges faced by both groups.
Instructions:
Provide a written response to each discussion question below
1-Why is it important to understand the underlying cause of an intellectual disability? (CO2,CO3)
2-What are the language implications for a student with an Intellectual Disability? (CO2,CO3)
3-Consider the technologies that adolescents commonly use for peer-to-peer communication (i.e., e-mail, texting, and social network pages). How might these technologies benefit and/or challenge the adolescent with language disorders? (CO2,CO3)
