Instruction
Objective of the Assignment: One of the hallmarks of effective managerial skills development is to become aware of different perspectives and the challenges faced by our employees. Through the readings in this class, you will be presented with topics related to inequality, diversity, microaggressions, and a variety of other issues that represent the current modern landscape of business and labor-management processes. These readings are designed to challenge your perspectives, cause you to reflect, and produce critical thought about how best to fulfill the requirements and responsibilities of being a modern manager.
Process of the Assignment: Throughout the course, you will read two books (non-textbooks) that detail modern perspectives on the events surrounding the lives of many individuals both inside and outside their place of work. You are asked to read each book as assigned, proceed the information presented, and produce two comprehensive book reports that address, at a minimum, the following items:
1. A review of the literature that tells what you learned from the readings
2. A critical analysis of the topics discussed that details your feelings on the information presented in an academic way (i.e., don’t just say, “I agree” or “I disagree”; explain what aspects you believe to be true/false and why with evidence to support your assertions).
3. A connection of the items discussed to the role of modern management. In this arena, take the time to explain how these readings would be valuable for a modern manager and how they will be useful in the future realm of business.
4. Any other information you wish to convey about the readings. In this area, you may elect to provide any personal reflections/thoughts that you might have about the readings that go beyond what is noted in the items above.
Deliverables of the Assignment:
Each book report paper should be between 5-7 pages in length to adequately discuss the required items above and written in APA style.
