Description
Term Project Guidance MGMT 3060 Operations Management
The final project for this course is for your team to analyze a local business or do the online searching about a business you interested in, either service or manufacturing. Your analysis is to include the various operational aspects that we will be discussing throughout this course. Your progress on this project will be monitored via team updates at the checking points. Some of the key deliverables will come directly from in-class discussions.
Your task will be to introduce your company in general and to identify the use of or absence of THREE various operations and supply chain management concepts/technologies/chapters we discussed in class, following with your analysis of how these impact the company. At the end, conclusion and suggestions are expected.
Much of this project is to help you understand how various operational and supply chain concepts and methods work in the ‘real’ world and / or how they might be utilized to help solve real problems. It will also help you see how different techniques may work in some situations but not others. The project will conclude with a presentation to the class before finals week.
Presentation
The team presentation will consist of everyone on your team sharing part of your project with the class. The presentation will be at least 10 minutes but no more than 15 minutes in length with about 15 slides (not including Q&A) and will be judged by your peers, as well as me. I will be looking for quality of the project, not the ‘flashiness’ of the presentation. However, it must be of the quality that could be presented to the focus company. I am more interested in your identifying the actual application of methods and techniques to the business and your recommendations of how techniques not being used by the company could improve the current business situation.
An introduction presentation will be scheduled as the checking point to get more information and feedback from the others in class.
The Written Paper
The written portion of this project will be about 15 pages in length of real substance and any support materials included such as charts and graphs, tables, lists, etc. as appendices. The support materials will NOT be considered part of the page count. It is to be double-spaced, typed in 12point font of either Times New Roman, Courier or Arial type, with margins of no more than 1 inch and no less than .8 inches. Pages are to be numbered.
The midterm checking point report
To get your team start as early as possible, and work toward a right direction, the checking point report is due in the middle of the semester. Your team need to identify a company you are interested in and will study for the term project. The format of the report is about 7 power point slides, and you will submit it on Canvas before the deadline listed at the end of this instruction.
All the following items are required in your midterm checking point report:
1. Introduce this company: including history, product or service provided, and the reasons
your team selected this company.
2. Term project plan: including three concepts/chapters (briefly list them and could change in
future), work breakdown (To do list), and project milestones (Who, will finish What, by When). Work breakdown and project milestones could be separated or combined.
