Choosing a Research Topic: Select a topic that is interesting to you! Make sure that your topic relates to MOLECULAR Cell Biology and does solely not focus on human physiology or medicine. You may need to cover a little bit of other topics for background, but the focus of your talk should be about Cell Biology (protein interactions, signal transduction pathways, transcription/translation, metabolism). Some Ideas… - Choose a DISEASE and relate it to cellular malfunction - Choose a GENETIC DISORDER and relate it to protein malfunction - Choose a DRUG and explain how it changes cellular behavior - DO NOT CHOOSE- Apoptosis, Cancer, or Stem Cells !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A few examples (but feel free to choose something different) Diseases- Huntington’s disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Albinism, Progeria, Gaucher’s disease, Tay-Sachs disease, Muscular Dystrophy, etc. Physiology- vision, hearing, absorption, digestion, luciferase, etc

15 Powerpoint slides + 1 reference slide - Your presentation should focus on the MOLECULAR story. - Background information can include larger stuff (such as tissues, organs, organ systems, epidemiology, disease symptoms) but your focus on the MOLECULAR. - 1st SLIDE = A slide with your topic and your name - 2nd SLIDE = An outline slide explaining the main points - 15th SLIDE = A summary slide that summarizes the main points - 16th SLIDE = A reference list (at least 5 good references) - Your presentation should be organized and create a clear “story” - Use many images (reference each images at the bottom of each slide) - Use large enough font and big enough pictures to be seen and understood - Do not make slides overly “wordy” (no full sentences!) - Do not include any videos or links - As with any assignment, do NOT plagiarize… Use your own words.
