Part 1: Module 5 : Reflection 1 -- Video - Response to Intervention - Data Based Decision Making Our video for this week gives you the opportunity to see the response to intervention (RTI) process in action at a school in the united states. You will see the actual data collection process and how this school uses the data collected to make informed decisions related to individual student academic and behavioral needs. The following reflection prompts are designed to help you more closely examine these concepts and share your personal feelings and opinions about them as an educator. Part 2: Module 5: Discussion 1 -- Components of the Response to Intervention (RTI) Process at Your School Chapter 3 of your text describes components of the Response to Intervention (RTI) / Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS). As well, strategies for collecting and using data to identify students with disabilities are discussed. The following discussion questions are designed to help you more closely examine this concept. Because this course is being offered during the summer when schools are closed and during the covid-19 global pandemic, the requirements for this particular assignment have been altered. Instructions: Read Chapter 3 Provide a written response to the discussion questions below based on your "Interview the Experts" experience: 1. How is the Response to Intervention (RTI) procedure organized at most schools? 2. What types of interventions are used, what is the duration of the interventions, and what is the process that follows once the interventions have been in place for a reasonable period of time? 3. Part 3: Module 5: Assignment 1 -- Skill Practice Activity - Case Study #1 Assessment Tool In this course, students are expected to apply knowledge of assessment tools and intervention strategies used to collect initial data that may be used to identify students with learning disabilities. Students are also expected to apply knowledge of how these tools may be used to monitor the progress of students and their response to interventions being implemented. Instructions: Manuel Gonzalez is an 11-year-old 5th grade student who is reading at a 2.6 grade level. 1. Using case study #1 (Manuel), describe an assessment tool that could be used for this particular student to assess and determine baseline data in “reading” for the beginning of 5th grade. 2. Explain why you chose this particular assessment tool. 3. Describe how this particular assessment tool could be used to monitor his on-going progress in reading during the school year. 4. Describe how the data from the on-going progress monitoring could be used to assist in reporting progress on the reading goal that you created for this student in Module 3.
