Part 1: Module 7 : Reflection 1 -- Video - The Power of Inclusive Education
Our final video for this course describes and discusses the power of inclusive education. Many educators who have had no formal professional development related to working with students with disabilities feel that they are simply not adequately prepared to have these students included in their general education classrooms. However, regardless of the personal feelings of the teachers, most students with unique needs are now spending at least a portion of their school day with their non-disabled peers.
The following reflection prompts are designed to help you more closely examine these concepts and share your personal feelings and opinions about them as an educator.
Instructions:
View the video assigned for this week.

1. Share your personal feelings about having students with disabilities, regardless of the level of severity of the disability, included in the general education classroom for all or part of the school day.
2. Cite at least three points made by the speaker in the video that had an impact on you, either positive or negative, and describe your feelings related to those points.

Part 2: Module 7: Discussion 1 -- Collaboration and the IEP Meeting
Chapter 5 of your text describes and discusses the challenges of including students with disabilities in the general education setting. As well, models for co-teaching, and principles of communication and collaboration with professionals and family members are discussed.

Part 3: Module 7: Assignment 1 -- Case Study #2 Lesson Plan Development
In this course, students are expected to apply knowledge of the individual developmental, academic, and social needs of K-12 students with disabilities to develop comprehensive lesson plans that can be implemented in an inclusive classroom setting for these students.
Instructions:
1. Using case study #2 (John), develop a lesson plan that could be implemented in an inclusive classroom setting, based on content area goals and objectives stated in John’s IEP (e.g., reading or math).
2. Instructional objectives and activities must address the needs of the case study student as outlined in the IEP, as well as the needs of the other students in the inclusive classroom.
3. The lesson plan must demonstrate how the teacher will differentiate and make accommodations for other diverse learners in the classroom and include higher order thinking skills.
4. The Barry University Lesson Plan Template should be used.
Submission Instructions:
1. For this assignment, the completed Barry University Lesson Plan Template should be submitted to Canvas.
2. All sections of the template should be clearly written without grammatical and/or spelling errors.
