Part 1: Module 4: Discussion -- Designing Positive Behavioral Interventions
Instructions:
Provide a written response to the following discussion question:
As the team leader for a behavior support planning meeting, what would be your list of 10 “Dos and Don’ts” for facilitating the team process and outcomes?
Submission Instructions:
Answer all questions thoroughly, following the APA (7th edition) guidelines when citing references from the book and other sources. Your response to each question must be a minimum of 3-4 sentences and clearly written without grammatical and/or spelling errors.
I strongly suggest you write out your initial responses to each question in Microsoft Word, correct all spelling and grammatical errors there, then upload your responses were indicated at the end of the assignment description.
Students are reminded to use respectful language that is void of any derogatory terms or slurs. These instructions are to be applied to both posts--your initial response to the questions asked and your feedback provided to at least two of your peers.
All postings will be graded using the discussion rubric.
Part 2:
A critical component of any schoolwide positive behavior support intervention (SWPBIS) plan is the definition of student behavioral expectations. Successful implementation of SWPBIS depends on the careful selection of the behaviors students will be expected to demonstrate every day across multiple settings on the school campus: in the classroom, in the hallways, in the cafeteria, on the school bus, etc. Teaching students about key behavioral expectations and reinforcing them for their efforts are proactive interventions that encourage students to behave appropriately and discourage them from engaging in frequent disruptive and challenging behaviors.
Instructions:
Review the short videos below about SWPBIS and the examples of two schools’ behavior expectations matrices (in docs).

Select a school and grade level where you would like to develop a behavioral expectation matrix. As part of your school’s schoolwide team, identify 3 - 5 SWPBIS behavioral expectations you want students to follow at your school. Behavioral expectations should be positively stated and easy for students to remember. Select an overall theme or school motto that would remind students of the expected behaviors and the appropriate way to behave at all times.
Using the Behavioral Matrix template provided below, identify 3 - 5 schoolwide behavioral expectations for your school. State in observable terms the specific behaviors students must display in each setting across the school campus for each of the expectations. For example, provide examples of what "being respectful" looks like in the classroom or on the playground.
Your Matrix will be graded according to the following criteria:
A.Grade level appropriateness of the Behavior Expectations
B.Selection of an overall school theme or motto
C.Observable and measurable descriptions of what each expectation would look like in different school settings.
Part 3: Module 4: Assignment 3 -- Case Study Analysis and Recommendations (1)
It has been emphasized in all your chapter readings that when students display challenging and disruptive behaviors in the classroom, the best solutions are not punishment and exclusion of the student. Assessing the underlying function or reasons behind the student’s behavior patterns, and teaching the student appropriate alternative/replacement behaviors are strongly recommended in the research literature.
Instructions:
Read the article entitled, “Using Functional Assessment to Develop Interventions for Challenging Behaviors in the Classroom" (Scott, DeSimone, Fowler, & Webb, 2000). Provide a brief one-paragraph summary of the article and complete the Hypothesis Statements and Alternative Behavior Interventions Chart for each of the three (3) case studies discussed in the article. Click on the links below to access a copy of the journal article and the Interventions Chart.
Submission Instructions:
The article summary should be written according to the APA Guidelines (guidelines are located in the Getting Started Module). Attach the Hypothesis Statements and Interventions Chart to your summary. Provide a Cover Sheet for this assignment—again, following the APA Guidelines.
