Write a narrative or lyric essay about something you’ve read in this class (fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction) that had a significant impact on you as a reader and/or a writer.
Things you might include:
-- your experience with reading literature before encountering this piece.
--your experience with reading this genre (fiction, poetry, or CNF) before encountering this piece.
--your first impression of this piece. Where and when did you first read it? What did you do before you read it? Were you able to read it without distractions the first time? If not, what kinds of distractions were there?
--what you liked best about the piece. What did it remind you of? In what ways could you could identify with the writer, the narrator, the speaker, or other aspects of the piece?
--how this piece shaped you as a reader. What have you discovered about your reading preferences? Which literary genre do you like best, and how has your reading in the other genres enriched your appreciation for your favorite genre? (This is especially important if you’re writing about CNF.)
--what this piece taught you about writing, especially about the use of literary devices in your favorite genre. (You can answer this as a creative writer or as a student of literature or any other writing-
