Dependent Variable Perceptions of Police
One independent var.; 3 controls Personal characteristics; choose any as controls
1. Use one of the class data sets to complete the data analysis. You’ll have to state which one in your paper and include a method section.
2. Pick your variables from the data set. If there are multiple versions of the variable, use the one that will be the least problematic when it comes to picking the type of analysis. You’ll need 5 variables total: 1 IV, 1 DV, and 3 control variables.
3. Based on your lit review come up with a single hypothesis that states that nature of the relationship between your IV and DV.
4. Select the type of analysis you will use. Really, there are 4 options here: multiple linear regression, logistic regression, Poisson regression, or negative binomial regression. When selecting the appropriate tool, be sure to justify why this is the most appropriate tool to use for this particular situation. Be specific and detailed.
5. Execute the analysis, check to see if assumptions were met.
6. Interpret the results.
7. Make a decision about whether or not to reject that hypothesis and discuss what this means for the IV-DV relationship.
