InstructionRead all instructions carefully below before submitting your assignment. Always keep a copy of all your work before submitting it. Part of the assignment is learning to summarize an article (post your Assignment in Word or pdf): Instructions: 1. Write two vocabulary words from the reading (that are new to you or are important to the assignment) and their definition, most closely tied to the context of the reading. 2. Write a summary (a paragraph) of the article. This paragraph should begin with the author and the title of the article. It identifies the main point or thesis of the article, it briefly describes main concepts and structure, then you can evaluate the content, example: "Harris's perspective on Black Studies is important because . . . . . . " 3. A third part, write down one important point and quote from the reading, providing context and with quotations and page number in APA example (Harris 1990, p. 25). So the paper looks like this (The summary of the example I use below was written by a previous student on another article) Note: supply the author, title, premise, structure, etc. For this assignment, do not repeat the instructions, do it as a paper: How the ppl should look like. A Title: Example Summary of The Harris Chapter Vocabulary: Anomalous = abnormal//unusual Emigration = the act of leaving one's own country to settle permanently in another; moving abroad Summary: Micheal Williams’s chapter " Pan-African Movement" traces the historical, ideological, and political development of the Pan-African movement. Harris outlines important intellectual perspectives that contributed to the Black struggle, as well as external and internal factors that went into weakening the movement. Beginning with historical context,Harris notes that Pan- Africanism originated in the dispersion of Africans. The movement is centered around political ideologies but also uses religious, cultural and economic approaches to encourage and strengthen unity in not only Africa but with all people within the African diaspora, in light of uniting their efforts to overcome their struggle. The goal of the Pan-African was to get people of African descent all over the world to unite and to work together for independence in Africa. The chapter goes on to discuss early emigration efforts and its significance in relation to the Pan-African movement which pushed for the migration back to Africa after the scattering and suffering of its people. It is important to note that although the number of people of African descent that actually returned to African was never fairly large, a majority of the followers that belonged to the emigration movements belonged to the poorer segment of the African world population (176). The chapter goes on to reveal numerous major players and organizations that were formed in light of the Pan-African movement before and after the twentieth century revealing the growth and development of the Pan-African movement as a whole. note: it does not have to be quite this extensive, but be thorough: overall focus, structure, main themes and concepts One Important point with Quote: Here you will write one quote from the reading, provide context (e.g., Harris talks about ... ) and tell me why you chose it; example below. In talking about the Pan-African movement, Williams states that "Pan-Africanism has not yet met its ultimate objective of unifying and liberating Africa . . ." (2005, p. 185). This point was interesting to me, because despite the mighty efforts on the part of extraordinary Black leaders, it underscores the difficulty of reconciling internal tribal tensions with the oppressive continuum of European capitalism and colonial rule..
