Refer to "Introduction to Culture" and 3.1, "What Is Culture?" sections in your textbook to help you with the questions below: As you may have already learned from your reading, culture is the values, beliefs, and practices of a group. Also, culture consists of material culture and non material culture (make sure you understand these two concepts correctly from the course materials provided). Examine the difference between material and nonmaterial culture in your own life. Respond to the following in at least five sentences. 1. Name two objects that are part of your own regular cultural experience. For each of the two objects you stated, explain why/how they are a part of your culture. Then identify and explain what aspects of nonmaterial culture (what values and/or beliefs) that these objects represent. Explain what your responses for the above items revealed to you about your culture and you. Make sure to address all of the above for question #1. (10 points) Extra Credit – Up to 3 Points Name and describe a current subculture or counterculture not already mentioned in our textbook.
