Navigating Erikson’s Eight Stages of Man This activity provides students with an opportunity to engage in a meaningful dialogue with an elderly person and apply Erikson’s eight stages of man to one individual. For this assignment, contact an adult over the age of 65 years. It could be a family member, friend of the family, or just an acquaintance. You should make an appointment with the subject and prepare to interview the individual about how he or she achieved—or failed to achieve—the tasks in Erikson’s eight stages. You will need to review the stages and be able to explain the theory and the tasks to the individual. Try to get specific answers to questions, such as how the subject struggled with identity and what identity the subject chose at different life stages. You should attempt to identify whether or not the individual has achieved integrity or is in a state of despair. Did the subject engage in generativity during the long stage of middle-age?
