This assignment provides the opportunity to apply readings, theories and discussions to a crisis communication scenario. Using the organization that you selected for your stakeholder mapping and risk assessment assignments, introduce a crisis case and critique the organization's response to the crisis. The crisis cannot be one that is discussed in class/readings (including crisis du jour organizations/presentations) and must have taken place since January 2021. The crisis can be one that has been resolved or it can be an ongoing crisis. You will back up your critique about the organization's response with both research and theory. In this 7- to 10-page paper (including references), you should address the following questions: What is the crisis? Timeframe? What did they do or what were they accused of doing? Context and social forces at play? How did the story break? (social media, traditional media, stealing thunder, employees, etc.) The organization's initial response and effectiveness? Key events? Resolution (unless it is ongoing, then what's the current state of the crisis)? Lessons learned from the crisis and crisis response? Or, what were the opportunities for change and growth presented by the crisis that the organization could take advantage of? Include: Background and Situation analysis (this will include stakeholders) Communication response from the organization Media and stakeholder reaction to the response Values and ethical questions the crisis and crisis response brought up Outcome Refer to theories and concepts from the readings and discussions in class and use APA to cite references and incorporate your findings from the stakeholder mapping and risk assessment assignments.
