Unit 6: Peer Review
17 17 unread replies. 52 52 replies.
Welcome to your second peer review! In this peer review, you will once again read and respond to two classmates' drafts, using posted questions as your guide to response.
LEARNING GOALS: By participating in this peer review, you will:
Discuss the concept of kairos as it applies to your classmates' writing
Use peer review as a writing process activity
TASK: To participate in this peer review, please do the following:
First, if you have not done so, read the instructions for this unit's Revision Project.
Then, make sure that you know who is in your three-person peer review team. Once again, your instructor will assign these groups. Depending on the number of active students in your section, you may be assigned to review the work of classmates who are not reviewing your work. If you are confused or have questions, check with your instructor!
After you have been assigned a peer review team, select the writing assignment that you will revise this unit, and post your file to this discussion as an attachment. In the body of your post, briefly describe your piece, and give your teammates 3-5 specific items you would like them to respond to in their responses. (For ideas, please see this unit's mini-lecture on writing processes.)
Read both of your assigned teammates' posted pieces. Then, compose a letter to each teammate, in which you respond to the following prompts, as well as to your teammate's individual questions. Each letter should be about 300-500 words long, and should fully address each response question, including your teammate's individual questions. Post your responses as a reply to your teammates' posts.

What is your overall impression of this piece? What message or effect do you come away with? What appears to be the writer's purpose or goal?
Why does it matter? In other words, what does the writer do to establish why the subject matters? Do you have suggestions for how the writer can demonstrate the importance of the subject?
What does the writer do to establish the timeliness, or kairos, of the writing? Do you have suggestions for how the writer could establish why the subject matters now?
What audience is invoked by the writer? Who does the writer seem to be writing to, and why? How do you know?
Where in the piece could the writer appeal to readers more effectively? What specific strategies might work better to reach readers?
What other specific suggestions to expansion, enhancement, or improvement can you offer?
Be sure to also respond to the particular questions posed by your teammate.
GRADING: Please see the rubric for this assignment to see how your participation will be graded.
