Write at least two paragraphs describing the individual you interviewed (this can be someone that you have extensive knowledge about within your community w/o interview process). Provide a list (with words and phrases from the interviewee) of the VABEs (values, assumptions, beliefs and expectations) you discovered that person holds.
(Interview an individual within a civic or governmental organization or agency who exemplifies noteworthy leadership qualities.You want the person you are interviewing to `tell his or her story.`
how he or she became associated with the organization;
past successes;
past failures;
future challenges.
Try to create a relaxed atmosphere. Observe body language. Avoid taking notes.
Organize the notes into a readable narrative and follow the steps below to interpret it:
Give no preconceived value to any of the details in the narrative
Identify key words and phrases (circle them with a colored pen)
From these words and phrases identify initial themes
Write out the themes using the actual language of the person interviewed
Analyze the themes for basic values, assumptions, beliefs and expectations
List and illustrate (using the words of the interviewee) the VABES you discovered)
Create Meaning: Write a three to four page descriptive narrative, story, fable or parable of the leadership experience of the person you interviewed.
Scholarly Reflection: Write a three to four page analysis of the leadership qualities of the person you interviewed. Following APA Publication Manual guidelines, support your analysis through academic journals, relevant texts, and articles.
Utilize academic literature, an autobiographical account or memoirs written by the leader, a detailed article written by someone besides the leader, filmed biographies or documentaries about the leader, and dramatized accounts of significant events involving the leader and current newspaper and television reports to create the remaining pages throughout the assignment.
