In 2-3 paragraphs tell me your opinion about: your response should be about whats written inside the parentheses. (The peice by Gauguin really convayed multiple meanings for me. From first glance the women laying face down, seems to be there against her will, as the person behind her seems to be looking at her with some form of dominance. But after looking at it longer. I can see that she is more comfortable than looking at first glance. Her facial expression doesn't seem worrisome, and her ankles are crossed in a very comfortable manor. And she doesn't seem to mind the presence of the person looking at her. Even though I was able to interpret more from Gauguin, I had a little bit harder of a time thinking of a good explanation for Dalì. There are so many interesting attributes to this art that it was hard to focus to figure out what the meaning behind it all was. At first you see the drooping clocks, at least thats the first thing my eyes were drawn to. So I immediately think that this has something to do with time, or the meaning of time. But then as you look closer, you see what appears to be some ants in a small jar. Which really got me thinking on what those could mean. Even though there are so many meanings anyone could interpret from the 3 art works. I find it interesting to be able to look at each one and really analyze them and dig deeper then just the surface. (The artwork assigned for this discussion assignment was very interesting. Each piece was very expressive in their own ways and brought something different to the table. The piece that I enjoyed the most was the Medusa head. I enjoyed this for several reasons. The first reason is because there is a preexisting context when someone says "medusa;" before I clicked on the link I immediately thought of something evil and a head of snakes (obviously). When the picture came up, I was surprised to see a cluster of things going on in the sculpture. Due to my previous concept of what Medusa was, I was able to relate the sculpture to the evil ideologies of her character. The sculpture demonstrated modern technologies; due to this I think the artist wanted to make a statement about the evil and snake-like society that we live in. I think it is also important to note that the "head" was dangling from a string above the ground. I think the artist was trying to use this as an analogy that all the chaos is hanging from a mere string. the idea of chaos also goes in hand with the dark depressing colors. The colors were far from bright and vibrant giving the viewer and sense of "gloom and doom" when observing the chaotic set-up of the piece.) The resources just to help you where this came from.
