I think one of the main issues, I see, within the field of operations management is globalization. With the advancement of technology our world is becoming smaller and smaller. Many would argue that this is a good thing and it very well may be, but it doesn’t negate the fact that it creates issues in operations management. As globalization becomes more prevalent in our business world completion will increase necessitating the need for higher quality and lower prices. As we have learned in our text operations managers “specialize in managing the production and distribution of goods and services” (Jacobs, F. R., Chase, R pg 8). Therefore the operation process team will need to ensure that they are getting the best products at the lowest prices as well as the lowest transportation costs. As competition increases this will be difficult as every other business will be doing the same thing.
