This discussion question highlights a new approach to Early Intervention (EI) called the PLAY Project. Rather than working on drills, a therapist or educator guides and coaches a parent to implement the intervention (and high-quality interactions) themselves on a daily basis. Using this developmental- social pragmatic approach, the professional comes to the home 1x per month to coach, model, and guide the parents to ensure the child is receiving individualized strategies to best meet their needs. This is in contrast to the more predominant behavioral approaches to EI that typically occur up to 40 hours a week of the child working 1:1 with a therapist.
