Instruction
In this forum, you have the opportunity to review literature reviews constructed by counseling scholars. Through review of your learning resources for this week, you will be able to develop a conceptual understanding of the scholar practitioner model and how professional literature plays a role in all that you do as a practicing counselor. You also will be able to learn from your fellow students through their thoughts and comments.
In this discussion, you will need to familiarize yourself with understanding of a meta-analysis, which involves summarizing or aggregating the results of individual quantitative research studies obtained from a literature review that address one or more related research hypotheses. To prepare for the discussion:
Select an article related to counseling from the PsychInfo Database in the Lamar University Library. The article must be a metaanalysis.
For your search use the the keyword "metaanalysis" and the area you that interests you (e.g., group counseling).
Then think about how and why the literature review from the article can inform your practice as a counselor
Use the document in Assignment 1 titled Navigating Your First Library Search to get started.
Initial Post is due by Day 4 - a brief synopsis of the literature that was reviewed in your selected article. Explain the implications of the research, as represented in the literature review, to practice in the area represented. Support your initial post with at least two cited resources. In order to be eligible for maximum points, respond by Day 6 to two or more peers, (each post, including the initial post must be done on separate days) which may include your instructor, who provided different examples/articles than the one you selected. Include all references in APA format and respond by:
• Asking a probing question
• Sharing an insight from having read someone's posting
• Offering and supporting an opinion
• Validating an idea with your own experience
• Making a suggestion
• Expanding on peers or instructor postings
Return to this discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made.

Select a Topic and Initiate the Library Search
In Assignment 1, you are initiating the first step to the final course project and the presentation of a literature review of published articles (see Final Project in Week 5 for guidelines) across three research traditions: quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods. You will also recognize particular methodologies and research implications in your selected topic area. See the attached assignment guidelines and rubric.
You will want to pick one counseling related topic and use that topic for each of your assignments through out the 5 weeks.
For this assignment, you will need to access the Lamar University Mary and John Gray Library system.
Use the attached assignment template to guide your work. This assignment should be a total of approximately 3-5 pages, not including the cover page and references page. Include at least 8 related peer-reviewed articles using various methodologies. Do not use internet sites such as WIKIPEDIA. Be sure to include the chart/matrix of your search process (see the attached template).
What is SafeAssign and why do I use it?
Safe Assign is a tool that helps you to develop as a writer. It is used to prevent plagiarism and to create opportunities to help you identify how to properly attribute sources rather than paraphrase. When you submit your work, you will also submit your assignment to SafeAssign to check your originality report. Complete your work in time to receive your SafeAssign report and adhere to all course due dates.
SafeAssign information
Submit your reflection narrative report and chart/matrix in one Word document in APA sixth edition format to SafeAssign and Blackboard by Day 7, 11:59 pm.
