Part 1: Module 5: Discussion 1 - Co-Teaching, Consultation, and Collaboration (You must respond to two classmates)
Discussion Board Questions for Module 5 (Co-Teaching, Consultation, and Collaboration)
Your textbook chapters for Module 5 along with the PowerPoint lecture closely examine co-teaching, consultation, and collaboration within schools today. To deepen your understanding and to examine this information in a new perspective, the following discussion questions are provided.
Instructions:
Provide a written response to each of the discussion questions listed below:
1.Murawski and Swanson (2001) reviewed the literature on co-teaching and found very little empirical evidence on the influence of co-teaching for student outcomes. Why do you think it is so difficult for researchers to measure the impact of co-teaching on student outcomes? How might teachers interested in co-teaching convince administrators that such an evaluation is a worthwhile endeavor? What might be key elements in a reasonable evaluation design?
2.Reflect on your current personal strengths and areas of needed growth, as well as the demands of a collaborative teaching position. Answer the following questions: How might co-teaching work for you? What would be the potential concerns and how might you address those concerns? What lies under your control and what aspects would be under the control of others?
Part 2: Module 5 - Assignment 2 - Consultation/Collaboration Scenario (Please see attached PowerPoint)
Within Module 5 you have learned about consultation and collaboration within schools in today's world. To put your knowledge into practice, each student will be assigned a scenario describing a particular situation in a school. It is anticipated that collaborative consultation of some type will be implemented within the academic setting for at least a portion of the solution to the scenario.
Each student will be given a scenario number in an announcement on the first day of Module 5. Be sure to look for the announcement that day to determine the scenario on which you will work. Click on this link SCENARIOS Preview the documentto see all the scenarios for the assignment.
Instructions:
Based on your assigned scenario, the student will complete the following steps:
Carefully read the scenario to ensure understanding of all aspects of the situation presented.
Propose how the situation described in the scenario could be managed or resolved. This must include some type of collaborative consultation for at least a part of the resolution.
Address all of the following topics in the proposal:
* The type of collaborative support needed to best meet student and teacher needs (i.e., direct, indirect)
* The model of collaborative consultation recommended
* Description of the team “players” (i.e., who will be part of the team formed to best meet the student needs?)
* Any projected difficulties that may arise resulting from your proposed solution
Include a rationale for your proposal, and include reference material to thoroughly document your choices.
Complete a 2 to 3 page paper (not including the cover and References pages) using APA (6th ed.) format to document the proposal.
Submission Instructions:
Your response should be edited for minor grammatical and spelling errors and adhere to the general writing style and formatting guidelines of the APA Manual (6th ed.).
Part 3:Module 5: Assignment 1 - Video Reflection (see PowerPoint for videos)
As indicated on the course syllabus and the modules, at various times you will be asked to view various videos and reflect on their content. You will then be asked to write your thoughts and feelings and submit them for instructor feedback. Here in Module 5 within the PowerPoint lecture, you viewed four (4) videos that demonstrated different models of co-teaching. They will be the basis for your reflection here in Module 5.
Instructions:
Locate the four videos in the PowerPoint that demonstrate models of co-teaching (One Teach, One Observe; Parallel Teaching; Station Teaching; and Team Teaching); watch them again if needed.
Your response should include:
A brief summary of each of their contents
Your analysis of the four models
Include what you consider to be the most effective model as well as the least effective model along with with your rationale for your choices by Day 7 (Sunday) of this week.
Write a one to two page minimum response, not including the cover and References pages, in APA 6th edition style with these thoughts and submit it.
Submission Instructions:
Your response should be edited for minor grammatical and spelling errors and adhere to the general writing style and formatting guidelines of the APA Manual (6th ed.).
