Instructions: Choose any aspect regarding ONE of these topics and write an essay in which you put forth an argument and substantiate that argument with what you have read in the course readings and found through your resources. One reading gives the history of Zombies in pop culture. It offers a lot of background information which you may be able to incorporate into your essay. Personally, I find the reading, “The Zombie as Barometer of Capitalist Anxiety” by D.T. Robb, to be very thought provocative. Author, D.T. Robb states, “zombies , as well as other variations of horror monsters, represent a fear that pervades society as a whole, a collective nervousness of destruction at the hands of a seemingly invulnerable foe." The article makes a connection between zombies and an underlying societal fear that the masses could be reduced to mobs of the living dead. Is fear really so pervasive in modern times? What is it that is feared? How is fear instilled in today’s citizens? How is it that today's citizens are zombies or the living dead? Then, there is the question of zombies and capitalism. What seems to be the connection? Topic: Zombies The topic will be “zombies, Focus? What is your argument or the point you are making in this paper Will it be why zombies have become a theme in pop culture? or, How zombies are a metaphor for how capitalism renders society into the living dead? or.... you choose! Aspects to be discussed to support argument? Decide what your focus is, and then decide which aspects you will discuss. Those aspects will be your roadmap or items in your thesis that tells the reader the subtopics for the paper. Your thesis needs to have: TOPIC + ARGUMENT + LIST OF SUB TOPICS (OR ITEMS TO BE DISCUSSED TO SUPPORT YOUR ARGUMENT) MUST USE ALL THREE READINGS PROVIDED to support your argument and any outside sources as well. Use proper in text citations of readings,and cite the readings on your works cited page. Highlight your thesis in YELLOW as well. Make sure you thesis states the subject, focus and a point of view (make it impersonal). Use MLA format for in-text citations, the works cited page (which is not counted in the page count), and the general format of the paper (font, spacing, headings...) Proofread your paper for grammar, spelling, punctuation, coherence... keep your essay impersonal. Use impersonal pronouns (he, she, it...) and avoid your personal experiences for the body of the essay. In the conclusion, you may make reference to your personal experiences. If you choose to do so, you may use the first person "I" in the conclusion only.
