Introduction According to the online Merriam- Webster dictionary, Immigrate is the fact to come into a country of which one is not a native for permanent residence. Immigrate to the United States of America is a dream that most people in developing countries would like to become true. They believe the United States to be the paradise on the earth and they will try to get in at all cost. But in my case, the idea of coming to the United States was brought to my attention by a friend, who informed me about the Diversity Visa Program. So I gave it a try fortunately, I was selected for the visa process. In 2013, when I got my Permanent Resident visa, you could see the excitement in my eyes. I wanted was to start with that new chapter of my life and all I had in mind was a better life and better opportunities. I didn’t think of any issues I could encounter, once in the United States.

Moving to the United States from Congo five years ago was challenging for me in many aspects like, and learning English as a second language, finding a job and a house. Conclusion Coming to live in the United States is yet quite challenging. But what can make that process more exiting? The availability of resources and information can make a big difference such as have some printed informative guides or what to expect brochures in all public places like airports, libraries, which will inform immigrants about the United States law, where to learn English and where to get help. Usually, people act better in situations that they are aware of, rather than when it’s unexpected. They will be prepared to face and overcome challenges, to follow their dream and take advantage of any resources available, which will make the journey less challenging. Regardless of those challenges, I have been able to learn and speak English, to buy a house and to get a much better job than before.

I have learned how to deal with those challenges in order to pursue my dream and I'm still working on it. In my introduction, I have included the four things that a good introductory paragraph should do: Hook the reader, introduce the topic, set the tone, and present the thesis. I believe that I did my best to engage the reader’s attention. In my conclusion my main points are summarized, I have included a question and I have provided an analysis and made connections. I made sure not to restate my thesis, or include any overused language and to introduce any new idea. With all these features listed, I believe that my introduction and conclusion are strong and successful.

CLASSMATE 2 I think to engage the reader in the introduction, you must be able to hook them. Such as humor, I'm more willing to pay attention to someone who can make me laugh. I like using a thought-provoking definition technique as well, because it would make me interested enough to see what the outcome would be. Setting the tone in a paper reminds me of how we as people act differently in different normal social settings. For instances, most people would agree that you act and dress differently from when you're going to church to when you're going to a dancing at a club. Writing a paper is the same thing, if your writing about a serious topic, then making jokes isn’t going to be appropriate. Setting the tone is also includes the writing style of the piece. It’s not appropriate to write an essay the same way you would send a text or email to your friends or family.

I think that the best strategy for the conclusion of your paper is going over the ideas that you talked about in the introduction and showing the reader how it comes all together. I was three months old when my biological mother made the hardest decision of her twenty years of living and asked her sister and brother in law to raise me and take care of me. Unfortunately, her responsibilities were not enough to make her stop drinking and using drugs. And with knowing that she decided that giving me to a family that was already established and who would love me as their own, would be better than making me grow up in her chaos all the time. Although her decision protected me from majority of things, one thing it did not protect me from is growing up with separation anxiety. I remember the night that I developed separation anxiety, it was the first time I ever had a slept over at my mom’s house.

I tried to make my story interesting enough to grab my readers attention and hook them in. Now as an adult, I think back to that night and I wonder if things would have been different if I had just stood in bed. Would I have struggled with separation anxiety as a kid. Would those same feelings reappear as an adult? After 37 years, I guess I will never know, but I do know is that I didn’t have any problems with being away from my auntie before that first sleepover. I don’t think that my conclusion solid, hopefully once I finish my paper I'll be able to make the conclusion stronger. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

I came across the advertisement when I was over at my grandma’s house last night, I was looking through some of her old magazines from the 1950s. The magazine contained many different advertisements. One of the advertisements was for an original McDonald’s burger. The ad was placed at the top of an article and the background color of the advertisement was white and there was a McDonald’s building in the background. There was also a young man with an exaggerated happy face placed in the middle of the ad he was holding a burger in one of his hands and he had a thumbs up in his other hand that pointed to a McDonalds sign which was placed on the front of the building in the background. The advertisement had the words “real good, and still only 15 cents,” the letters were in a large red bold font and placed near his head which made the message clear and easy to read. The advertisement sends the message that the average American consumer can eat delicious and affordable food. less

I choose an M&M advertisement, and the thing that catches your attention off the bat is that the M&M has a pretzel on the inside. The elements of the image that are large is going to be the M&M in the picture and behind the words and also what is going to be smaller than the M&M is going to be the pretzel on the inside of it. They have used just about every color because M&M’s are very color full but the color that is on the package which is light blue. But also the expression on the M&M’s face is also something that catches your eye when you first look at it. They have used a very big font because they want to get their name out there so it is going to be easier to read and keep in mind. The text is placed right in the middle of the package where is is easy to read and is probably the first thing that you do read.

The image and the text work together because the text is not long at all so it makes it very easy to ready and the colors in the image help the text the stick out better so all in all it is very effective.
