Instruction
Management is the art of getting things done through people. Thus those who can naturally motivate are effective managers. Motivation is more complex today then ever. In the past managers could assume all workers valued social security and did not take their jobs for granted. With higher standards of living, social safety nets and litigation for illegal terminations, the fear of losing a job is no longer sufficient motivation for outstanding performance.
Your Questions:
1. Explain Maslow's Hierarchy, is this a valid tool for today's managers?
2. What level of the needs hierarchy do you feel the average worker is on? How can management determine which level employees are at and what would a motivation strategy be for each level?
Finally just a reminder before you get started that the typical response that receives full credit is about 600 words in length.
